SOS Children’s Villages is the world’s largest charity working for bereaved and deserted children. It works towards growing a child into a healthy family. It provides not just home to these abandoned children, but also a family, parent and siblings. It strives to bloom these children into a full grown flower who will later carry forward their vision of loving and helping others. Sticking to its motto “Others before Self”, SOS children villages celebrated its 68th founding anniversary on 23/6/2017.


As usual TCV Suja too celebrated SOS Day. With great reverence to the man who founded this remarkable organization, SOS TCV Suja marked this day by holding an official function in the school hall and thereafter witnessed the finals of three week long Gmeiner Memorial Soccer Tournament. The official function started at 7.45 am in the school auditorium. All the staff and students gathered on time. The function was presided by Mr. Tsering Ngodup la, assistant Headmaster to Junior section. The occasion started by offering butter lamp to the portrait of Dr. Hermann Gmeiner by Geshe Thupten Jamyang la ( Lighting of butter lamp has great religious significance.) and whole gathering offered prayers of Manjushri (lord of wisdom-one who enhances wisdom). Then, tibetan teacher Mr. Rigzin Choedhen la spoke about the day. He gave a very vivid account of life history of Dr Herman Gmeiner and founding of SOS children villages. He requested all the children to draw inspiration of his vision and work. Further, he requested students to remember His Holiness the Dalai Lama too and his sacrifices for the cause of Tibet and Tibetans. Reminding the gathering about messages and expectations of Dalai Lama, he concluded his speech with great impact.

Then, prizes were distributed to students who excelled in painting competition held few days ago. Setting the theme of the painting as Gratitude, three different levels of competition was held among students of junior section. Prizes were given away by school Director Mr. Namdol Tashi la. He also spoke to the gathering about the day. Reiterating the points already mentioned by the former speaker, he enthralled the audiences with his great oratory style and talked about all the topics that is very important for the future generations. He encouraged the students to become self-reliant, start charitable attempts in society, follow the vision of great peoples like Dr. Gemiener, His holiness the Dalai Lama and many more and lastly to remember the gratitude of a Mother, a best gift any child can ever have. He was greeted by huge round of applause for his wonderful talk and the function thus concluded.

After the function, the much awaited finals of Gemeiner Memorial S20170624_180610 (1).jpgoccer tournament was played. Organized by students of class X and especially by Master Tenzin Khechok under the guidance of Physical Education Instructor Mr. Namgyal Tenzin la, the girls and boys final kicked off with great enthusiasm and excitement. A very exciting and energizing game was played. Finally, class XII boys and girls team came out as winner. School Director gave away the prizes to all the finalists and the winners. The organizer of the tournament has also come out with a publication of a small book comprising of writings of students expressing thankfulness and gratitude to all those people who make a difference in lives of children in general and Tibetan children in specific. A very simple and beautiful compilation of writings in Tibetan and English.
