15th June 2015: Gmeiner Cake soccer tournament, which is being played in all TCV Schools every year in the loving memory of late Mr. Hermann Gmeiner, the founder of SOS village was kicked off yesterday in the school. The opening ceremony began at 2:15 pm with the March pass of the teams accompanied by the school band. There were 25 teams; 18 Men’s and 7 women’s teams this year competing for the most coveted cup. All the teams finally assembled on the ground in their own team jersey with the sound of the band and the cheering of the crowd giving it a mini GCM tournament look.

The national anthem was sung and one minute silence was observed in remembrance of our great martyrs who have sacrificed their precious lives for our country. After that the school captains took oath of the tournament in Tibetan and English. There were two three cover songs by Master Tenzin Jigme la. After that, the teams marched out of the ground and prepared the ground for the opening two matches of the tournament.  The first opening match in the men’s category was Y United V/S XII United. In the women’s category Fire Team A played against Fire team B.


Fixture of the Tournament ( Male Category)

This tournament series was organized by the students of class XII with guidance from the three school PETs. The organizers had done a really wonderful job in preparing the ground, making the fixture and arranging the opening ceremony. This week long tournament will finally conclude on 23rd June, the SOS Day which is celebrated in the loving memory of Dr. Hermann Gmeiner the founder of SOS Children’s village. The winner will take away the Gmeiner Cup and cake.


Fixture of the Tournament ( Women’s Category)

Hermann Gmeiner cake tournament is being played in all the TCV Schools. It has become an important sporting event where a large number of students could participate. Every year, the number of the teams increases especially the women’s team and as such the tournament follows knock-out system and last for a little more than a week. The final in both men and women’s category will be played on SOS Day i.e. 23rd June.
