Dr. Kunchok Dorjee la

18th October 2012: The Hepatitis B project which had been going on at TCV School Suja since January this year under the project leader Dr. Kunchok Dorjee with the fund from our generous sponsors concluded today with the small talk by Dr. Kunchok during the morning gathering.

Hepatitis B, which has been a common disease among the Tibetan community and lately lots of effort and awareness have been going on in the community. TCV School Suja, which has around few thousand inhabitants, has been lucky enough to get fund to carry out this Hepatitis B prevention and treatment project. Dr. Kunchok Dorjee, a resident physician at Delek Hospital, Dharamsala took the initiative and conducted lots of tests and experiments along with the nurses at TCV school Suja.

Apartment from tests and treatments, the entire Suja has now become fully aware of this disease. During the talk, Dr. Kunchok la once again explained the origin, causes and prevention of this Hepatitis B. He mentioned again and again the four main modes of acquiring this disease from someone who is suffering:

  1. Casual contact especially at homes, schools, institutions etc
  2. Sharing syringes
  3. Having physical relationship
  4. Infection of open wounds

Finally he summed up his talk by thanking the school Director for giving this opportunity to do something for the community health. For the students, he requested them to take care of one’s health. Speaking on the occasion he said, “You are young right now. You all have lots of dreams and vision. So, without good health, your dream becomes second priority. Your first priority becomes undergoing various treatments. So, you are left with nothing, but a couple of regrets! So, right from now, you have to take very good care of your health. Don’t ever indulge in harmful habits.” The school Director thanked Dr. Kunchok Dorjee la on behalf of the school and presented him a traditional Tibetan scarf.
